Transfer Window

Postby beex on Tue Jan 01, 2008 6:09 pm

I thought I'd start up the topic as the window is now officially open.

Obviously we need a striker and Sky are reporting that Anelka might be available?
I personally would rather spend 10 million on him than 12 million on Bent.

Also Sissoko at Liverpool may be surplus to requirements, not a bad defensive midfielder?

Sky article here http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528, ... 72,00.html

What say you, you good people?

Sissoko is quite good when in form, however from what I've seen/heard he is pretty inconsistent. I remember watching him vs Barcelona for pool last season in the CL, he looked great. Haven't heard much about him since mind you.

I think Anelka would be an excellent buy for you guys, he'd be a much better signing than bent. Bent isn't worth 5 million IMO, never mind 12  I have doubts over whether you'll get Anelka though as it seems every friggin club wants him at the moment.

Just a side note, have any of you guys seen this site -
http://www.football-rumours.co.uk/

It's hilarious the BS some people come up with, and the stories to try and back up their facts are even better e.g.-

"My dad's barber has a son who's mates brother fixes the toilets at stamford, and he saw" ....blah blah blah, quite a good laugh if you're bored
“I had the quickest 250 league goals ever scored, a career record of 251 in 274 matches, eat your heart out Jimmy Greaves, Ian Rush, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer.” - Brian Clough

I haven't seen Sissoko but I remember him being compared to Viera which aint half bad.

Anelka is just the sort of player we should break the bank for I reckon. Imagine him as the lone striker!

Maybe he's mates with Faubert?

*sigh* I Don't understand peoples desires to play at Chelsea. I know they win things, but its essentially selling out. Not to mention I've hated Chelsea since Yeltsin one them the league.

If Anelka goes to Chelsea he'll only have a sulk if he doesn't play every week. They probably want to buy him as cover for the African boys

I hope the talk of us getting Bent from the Spuds is just talk, most overated striker in the prem.
I was there when Brooking scored with his head.

Some interesting rumours here:

c/p http://www.thesoccerblog.org/premiershi ... new-tevez/

West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is ready to sign the new Carlos Tevez - Argentine teenage wonder striker Nicolas Mazzola.

The Independiente kid, who played for his country in the Under-17 World Youth Cup in Korea earlier this campaign, has already been over for secret talks.

Now Hammers, who loved and lost Tevez last season, could have found a player of similar South American style and swagger.

And Curbishley may be able to land him for a knockdown fee of around £1million up front.

Sources in Argentina reveal that Mazzola, who has already cracked the first team at Independiente, was first spotted by the Hammers in the Korean tournament by Trevor Brooking, who tipped them off about his ability.

Mazzola, 18 later this month, was approached and gladly came for a look at the facilities in East London, with a move now likely to be sorted out before the end of the window.

West Ham are also making thorough doublechecks into his background to make sure there are no third-party issues as there were with Tevez and Javier Mascherano.

And Hammers also want to be sure that Mazzola has a valid EC passport after being told that he qualifies through an Italian family background.

It could be a major coup for Curbishley, who is stepping up his recruitment drive for top worldwide talent. He is also after Hungarian Under-21 defender Zsolt Korcsmar.

The tall Ujpest Dosza centre half has also been in for a ‘test’ and has been asked back soon, with a view to a full-time capture.

Hammers were one of the biggest spenders on players when Curbishley swept in a year ago, but the owners now want to ensure the club’s tradition of pushing young players through is carried on.

Meanwhile, Curbishley has made an audacious bid to take Darren Bent on LOAN from Tottenham for the rest of the season.

He wants to add another striker to his injury-hit squad but does not have the money to spend big.

First choice is his former Charlton player Bent, who he tried to sign in the summer before the player opted for a £16.5m move to White Hart Lane.

But Spurs boss Juande Ramos may block the cheeky move.

That will see West Ham turn their attentions to Portsmouth misfit Dave Nugent, who has been a flop since his £6m summer move from Preston to Fratton Park.

So good you thought you'd post it twice. Any how in the same vane I'd have thought after the Tevez saga West Ham would have had enough of Bent loan deals!! Boom Boom!

C&P Telegraph online

Shopping list

West Ham are hoping to lure Stephen Carr away from Newcastle while Derby's Giles Barnes is another potential target along with Everton's Andrew Johnson. They are also eyeing Juventus midfielder Tiago, Marseille's Djibril Cisse and Canada international Atiba Hutchinson, who plays for FC Copenhagen.
