Transfer Rumours thread.

Postby TheRedRisky on Wed May 14, 2008 11:19 pm

I figured rather than a new thread everytime we are linked with a player, why not one big long thread. Anyway heres what the Daily Express has said.

West Ham manager Alan Curbishley is hopeful of signing Manchester City captain Richard Dunne for about £6m.

Hasnt he been in brilliant form? if thats the case i'd take him, but i'd say we'd have to say bye bye to gabbidon and collins to get this signing. + itd almost certainly mean tomkins would be pushed furthur from the starting team. So its a bit 50/50 really.

I Also hear we are gonna start contract negotiations with Deano, which i hope is the case.

Perhaps im getting dunne confused with Micah Richards.

I was saying to scotty earlier i don't quite know HOW to define a Creative midfielder. He used benayoun as an example but i can't think of many we could really get.

Dunne is a backwards step IMO. Another brilliant recruiting coup by Curbs if it is true and he pulls it off.

I wonder if Nani has had a say in this. I wouldn't have thought so.

Considering Wenger is after him is it really that dumb? Have you ever seen Dunne play? How can signing a player be a backwards step?

Yes I have seen him play and to be quite frank I don't think he can offer us anything different to what we already have.

It's dumb if we add him to a squad which already has "hard nut" and/or defensive type midfielders in it such as Bowyer, Parker, Mullins, Faubert et al.

Maybe I'm a bit premature in calling it dumb withour knowing who we are going to offload - fair call. :worship:

I don't really take much from the fact that Wenger is after him as well. They haven't had a "hard at it" midfielder since Viera left so he is looking at filling a void.

Besides, he probably needs to add a few "home grown" lads to his squad before they kick 'em out of the "ENGLISH" Premier League.

Dunne's form has tailed off but overall he's a had a strong season. I'm not a massive fan of his but on balance he's made less mistakes than say, Anton (and he's rumoured to be leaving) I'll admit, he's no glamour signing and is probably more of an "old fashioned stopper", but I'd play him above Anton, Collison and Neill. Would be a good pairing with Upson but we'd need some speedy wing backs (not a big Shorey fan but he's reasonably quick)
Just my 2c worth ;)

Err, Richard Dunne is a CENTRAL DEFENDER, no longer plays in midfield and hasnt dunne (get it?) for years. He's won Man City's player of the year for the past 3 seasons and is quick as fuck considering his size. Whether or not he is who we need to buy, however, you can debate all day long. The question should be why would HE want to come to US???

P.S How can you get Micah Richards confused with Richard Dunne????

Obviously you know loads about him considering you don't even know what position he plays - he's been playing at centre half for the last 10 years so probably would look a bit shit in our midfield!!!

Nah mate, if West Ham are ever gonna progress we've gotta stop selling our academy players and keep them at the club for the long hall.

For as long as I can remember we invest a shed load of time and money in these young blokes, just when they start to look useful we sell them, for a decent fee I agree, but then we do fuck all with the money. I've no reason to think anything has changed.

Selling an U21 international ,who will get better, and replacing him with a dinosaur like Dunne is madness. Dunne can stay where he is thanks, half a decent season in an very anonymous career and now he's worth 6mill! It's a wind up. As for Le Arse being interested, doubt it, it's not Wengers style. He don't go in for 30 something blokes. Sounds like Dunnes agent is testing the water.

(EDITED)
Begs, I agree with you about not selling Anton but I'm coming around to the idea of signing Dunne.
He also fits with the Curbs habit of signing skippers.
Also, at 28 he's hardly a dinosaur
