Just got this off another forum site:
Word coming out of East London is that West Ham manager Alan Curbishley could be on the verge of what could be their biggest signing of the summer. Apparently Curbs is in the process of trying to bring some Serie A class to the squad by adding Fiorentina ace Adrian Mutu to an already-promising front line.
Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu is on the verge of signing for West Ham in a £16 million pound deal, after rejecting a new contract from Fiorentina last week. (various)
Who knows if the word coming out of East London is sound, but if this deal were to happen, it would be a massive signing for the Hammers. The Fiorentina striker has scored 17 goals in 26 appearances for the club this past season, and was instrumental in helping La Viola make the Champions League qualification round.
Wouldnt mind seeing this rumour come true, what say you all.

Other Tx rumours: Huddlestone from the Yids, deal agreed and waiting to see if he wants to move. Personally SP is a better box to box player. IMO Andrew Johnson wants a move back to London with West Ham a top target for £9m Wayne Bridge & Nicky Shorey for pressure on Linda at LB. WB dissalusioned at lack of first team football and Reading want NS off their books since they have been relegated. Sidwell also a possible signing.
TBH, none of the above gives me a hard on. All OK plyers but none of them are what we need. They would strengthen the squad but not necessarily improve it.

Yeah, on seconds thoughts think you're right Davros. What I am happy with is looking outside the borders of Britain.

Fuck me you wouldn't have MUTU????
Hmm top class Serie A player or Carlton Cole?
He wasn't shit at Chelsea at all. He was only there 6 months and in the games I saw him play he looked pretty shit hot. As for the drugs the only thing Mutu did differently to other EPL players is get caught - many players dabble in the odd bit of charlie.

6 goals in 25 league appearances. Given a 7 month ban for cocaine. And we want to pay 16 mill pounds. Think there is better.
I don't condone the drug use as acceptable because others do it just haven't been caught. If drug user, they shouldn't be welcomed here. Same reason we got rid of Sean Newton for any money we could get. Where is he now? Don't think drugs help performance and therefore those players with these or others problems should be sold as have done previously.
Hope all users get caught and banned. Therefore, don't want Mutu especially for that price.

We got rid of Shaun Newton cos he was shit!
His (Mutu) record speaks for itself. He scored an amazing amount of career goals and I think he scored about 27 for Fiorentina this year.
I'm not gonna go into the whole drugs thing but I don't think a bit of cocaine use by somebody who has a lot of money is such a bad thing or uncommon. People get pissed all the time but hey as long as it's legal that's fine eh.

Mutu's record speaks for itself! 6 goals in epl in 25 apps. Banned for 7 months on drugs.

You must be kidding. This is wrong on so many levels - performance, addiction, gambling, influence on kids just to name a few.
or uncommon. People get pissed all the time
Don't want alcoholics in our team either.
but hey as long as it's legal that's fine eh.
Can't get arrested for a few pints but as stated in red above don't want alcos in the team either.
So many problems occur with drugs and don't believe we want that at West Ham. You might want to turn a blind eye so long as we play right and win. I want a club without drug accusations, that we can be proud of.
When was the last time a superstar on drugs came out and said he was proud he took drugs and everyone agreed?

No I was not kidding. I personally do not beleive the law should have the right to encarcerate somebody for putting something into their own body but that is not my point here - I had said I didn't really want to go into that anyway but it was a recreational substance not performance enhancing so there are no issues with regards to sporting integrity. No you can't get arrested for having a few pints and that's where I take issue with this subject - my wife is a nurse and she sees a hell of a lot more people for Alcohol related illness than drugs - but hey I'll say it again as long as it is legal eh! George Best was a pisshead cunt his whole career but everybody loved him - you reckon if he was publically known to have taken drugs he'd have had the same affection? It's the same difference to me except GB never got over his addiction so what is worse? Mutu makes one mistake and is not worth touching. Just a little reminder about our friend Di Canio - nobody wanted to touch him when Harry took the gamble of the decade which paid off 10 fold. There is such thing as a reformed character be it drugs or any other "offence"!
With regards to form I'm going on most recent form in Serie A - one of Europes top leagues. Sure it's not the premier league but the guy has amasing strength and finishing ability which should be idealy suited to the EPL given the chance to settle rather than judge ona meagre 25 appearances (I'm sure some of these were form the bench too) and I for one would be chuffed if he signed. Would make much better entertainment than another season of Carlton Fucking Cole!
I appreciate where you're coming from and I understand why you feel like you do with regards to the topic because society is shaped that way. The realities of what is more dangerous and what has the bigger addiction / abuse rates is very far from its societal context. It's all quite hypocritical and I'm sure there would be far greater restrictions on Alcohol if it wasn't so delightfully taxable. But either way I do beleive in people who having paid their penance being given the opportunity to put it behind them.

But it can be performance debilitating. I, for one, don't want someone in my team having recreational drugs before a game just because they aren't performance enhancing. You may say that it's the same as you shouldn't drink before a game and I agree. The difference is that drugs can tend to be more addictive but either way, someone who relies on either substance, I don't want on my team. And as I bet on sport sometimes, it affects that too.

I think more people drink too which increases the likelihood of that

Best and Maradona say. Both gifted but both addicted and neither a role model. I admire their ability but more pity them and wouldn't want any kid of mine to follow their path.

Was Di Canio done for drugs or just a bit of a nutcase and pushed the ref? Anyway, I don't know much about whether Mutu has mended his ways. If he has, then, much like Wendel Sailor, I wish him all the best. If he hasn't, I don't want him.

If reformed, ok but still not sure for 16 mill. If not, no.

You make it sound like I can't think for myself and am shaped by society or public opinion.
The realities of what is more dangerous and what has the bigger addiction / abuse rates is very far from its societal context. It's all quite hypocritical and I'm sure there would be far greater restrictions on Alcohol if it wasn't so delightfully taxable.
Same as cigarettes except passive smoking does affect others.
But either way I do beleive in people who having paid their penance being given the opportunity to put it behind them.
So do I if they no longer continue that way.
Response again in red.
Anyway, I'll let you concentrate on your study. Pity won't catch up at the Caxton but cmon you Aussies (not the druggie ones of course )
