From ABC

Australia's World Cup qualifiers against Iraq have been given the all-clear to proceed after FIFA lifted its suspension on the Iraqi Football Association.

Football's world governing body imposed a one-year ban on Monday after the Iraqi Government announced it was dissolving the country's national Olympic committee.

FIFA says it has been advised that Iraq's football association has been excluded from the changes, meaning the ban has been lifted.

That means the qualifier in Brisbane will go ahead on Sunday evening as well as the return match in Dubai scheduled for June 7.

Football Federation Australia chief executive Ben Buckley says it is great news.

"We're truly delighted that the Iraqi Government, the Iraq FA and FIFA have sorted out the issues between them and the Socceroos and Iraq can get on the field to play this important World Cup qualifying match on Sunday," he said in a statement.

The Socceroos also meet Qatar in Doha on June 14 before returning home to take on China on June 22 in Sydney.

So 3 pm at the Caxton?

I'm not going now - have too much study to do. I'm not confident going into my Monday/Tuesday exam double header and can't justify not staying at home and studying.

Yeah all sounds good in principle but if I fail I don't get reimbursed from work then I'm 3 grand down. I'm so far behind - some (most) of the material I'm learning for the first time now rather than revising. :( Add to that I'm trying to fight off the bloody flu :(

victory is sweet. Although could easily have been 2-2. Desperately need Neill in centre of defence. They had 2-3 great chances against Schwarzer who was great.

Kewell also very good climbing well for those headers. Bresciano found it hard to crack their defence but tried hard. Grella impressed me for taking their dangerous player out when needed.

Don't you just love Aussie media's comprehension of our world game?

Sunrise ticker tape this morning....

"Harry Kewell kicks only goal in Australia's 1-0 victory over Iraq"

So obviously I was rolling my eyes saying you score goals in football not kick them.

Imagine the state of my pants when I saw in fact he headed the winner!

Fucking Idiots!

Surely that performance just PROVES that there is no way in HELL that Bresciano is worth 4 million, not worth 400.000 IMO.

Didnt think Aust played well at all and could have (perhaps should have)lost or at least drawn.Sadly lacking in that killer instinct in front of goal, but most will say a win is a win and this is true, but at the moment couldnt see the Australian team beating too many on the World stage. :(
