I'll 'fess up, I'm a Star Wars kid. I grew up watching Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Vader and the rest 'duking' it out.

Leading up to the release of the prequels, I was unbelievably excited...I was in high school when The Phantom Menace came out...and when they had all be released I was bitterly disappointed. A movie franchise I loved was scompletely screwed over.

The New Star Trek movie is _everything_ the SW prequels should have been. The cast was brilliant, the acting was strong, the script and plot was great, the flow of the movie was excellent, it didn't feel as long as it was, the twists were unexpected, but within believability, and the intro scene with Kirks father (who is an ex-home and away actor) was good and set the tone of the whole movie, there was moments of comedy, they had all the required lines, and can you say SPACE JUMP!! I've been sky diving and I got the same rush watching the space jump scene as I did from my skydive.

However, the hardcore Trekkies are hating all over this movie. This guy is clearly feeling the same way I did over the Star Wars prequels, but it amuses me that he can't enjoy it for what it was...an AWESOME movie.

SPOILER
And the whole 'blowing up of Vulcan' plotline which Trekkies are hating on so hard is clearly explained away by the fact the movie takes place in an alternate timeline
END SPOILERS

...which then leaves it open for more movies.

Who else has seen it?

I know its an alternate Time line but the spoiler there annoyed me :P I think i know what josh will say but still.

Anyway as a whole i enjoyed it, but i got a little niggly with 1 or 2 things. Uhura and Spock seemed wayyyy to out of place.

haha hence the big spoiler warning :P

I dunno...it was a huge shock, but then this is an alternate timeline, and one in which Spock clearly embraced his human side more. As evidenced in the...school? scenes, where he fought other Vulcans for mocking his heritage.

Yeah don't listen to Chris, he's not very open minded with things like this :p he's hated the ending to most of the T.V. series that he's seen.

Just in case of spoilers....

I thought that the whole alternate timeline thing was done really well, I went through the whole movie thinking that they were going to set it right at the end (as I know from watching T.N.G. that Spock's mother was very much alive and Vulcan was very much not disintegrated), but I think that leaving it as it is has left it open for more movies (which, if they are of the same caliber as this one, would be AWESOME.)

I think the fans that are bitching about it should be glad it didn't end up being the huge pile of shit that is Transformers!

P.S. Fuck you Michael Bay.

They were themselves...the characterisations were spot on..or did you miss Kirk trying to hit on the nurse while drugged? lol.

Fish..I agree with you on your little spoiler. It was very well done.

I also agree with you about Transformers. Very disappointing.

Yeah I agree, they were definitely spot on (especially McCoy, I think Karl Urban did a fantastic job)

James T Kirk been taking the piss out of alien life forms for years, even shagged a couple. Legend. Haven't seen it yet but plan to soon. Didn't look at the spoiler as I may then have to track you down and kill you.
